June 30, 2010 - The Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit decided in favor of Sojuzpatent’s client company Soremartec SA (Belgium) (plaintiff) with regard to the case of violation of exclusive rights to the Trademark Registration RF 368144. By this Decision the Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit affirmed the Decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court of March 29, 2010 adopted with regard to the same case, according to which:
- in favor of Soremartec S.A. the compensation in the amount of 2,000,000 (two million) rubles is exacted;
- the defendants are forbidden to use the Trademark Registration 368144 in the way of producing, introducing into the civil turnover and selling confectionery "Waffles "Tribelli" with their packing and / or individually wrapping designation similar to the Trademark Registration 368144.
The defendant used on the package of the confectionery products "Waffles" Tribelli" designation similar to the Trademark Registration 368144, which was used by the right holder Soremartec SA inter alia on the packages of sweets "Raffaello".
April 21, 2010 – The Federal Arbitration Court of Moscow Circuit affirmed the Resolution of the Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit taken in favor of the client company “Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche Aktiengesellschaft" (the Federal Republic of Germany) (plaintiff) with regard to the case of violation of exclusive rights to the international trademark "Cayenne" IR 723642 and IR 730258. The defendant used the domain name "cayenneclub.ru" for offering for sale spare parts for Porsche Cayenne cars. The Court put an injunction on the defendant against the use of the trademarks belonging to "Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche Aktiengesellschaft" in administering the domain "cayenneclub.ru".
March 17 2010 - The St. Petersburg Arbitration Court decided in favor of Sojuzpatent’s client DELSEY (France) (plaintiff), with regard to the case of infringement of exclusive rights for the trademark ”DELSEY” IR 487132. In accordance with this Decision it is forbidden for the defendant to use the trademark IR 487132 in the way of offering for sale and selling bags labeled ”DELSEY”, except offering for sale and selling bags, which were introduced into the civil turnover in the territory of the Russian Federation by DELSEY or with its consent;
- in favor of DELSEY compensation in the amount of 110,000 (one hundred ten thousand) rubles is to be collected from the defendant for the infringement of the exclusive rights for the trademark IR 487132.
March 09, 2010 – The Federal Arbitration Court for Moscow Circuit decided in favor of Sojuzpatent’s client Open Join-stock Company “Divnogorsk low-voltage machines plant” (plaintiff) with regard to the case of infringement of exclusive rights to the utility model “Automatic switcher” patent RF 53815. By this Decision the Federal Arbitration Court for Moscow Circuit affirmed the Decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court of August 27, 2009 and affirmed the Resolution of the Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit of November 23, 2009 which were taken earlier with regard to the same case and according to which it was forbidden for the defendant to introduce into the civil turnover goods “Automatic switcher BA57-39” in which the utility model under the patent RF 53815 is used.
February 19, 2010 – The Arbitration Court of the Republic of Adygeya decided to bring an individual entrepreneur to administrative responsibility in accordance with art. 14.10 of the Russian Administrative Offences Code for importation, without the permission of the right holder, Sojuzpatent’s client Company "Ferrero S.p.A.", into the territory of the Russian Federation of confections, which labels and packages contained signs identical or confusingly similar to the trademark of the right holder. With regard to the same case the Arbitration Court of the Republic of Adygeya also decided to impose on the offender an administrative fine in the amount of 11,000 (eleven thousand) rubles and to confiscate the subjects of administrative offence: the chocolate products of a spherical shape with ‘surprise’ designation on them. This case on an administrative offense was considered by the Court on the basis of the Novorossiysk customs’ application. Company "Ferrero S.p.A." participated in the case as a third party not instituting independent claims.
October 29, 2009 – The Moscow City Arbitration Court ruled in favor of plaintiff JSC “Otechestvennie Lekarstva” (Russia) (represented by attorneys of Sojuzpatent Dr.Zalesov and Mrs. Ozolina) and declared illegal decision of Russian PTO on invalidation of the Russian patent 2229291 (relates to the drug against hang-over syndrome) previously made on the opposition filed by JSC VeroPharm (Russia). This case follows previous favorite to the client of Sojuzpatent ruling of courts (of all three instances) to put permanent injunction on JSC VeroPharm and to collect damages for manufacturing of patented drug.
November 5, 2009 – The Moscow Arbitration Court considered the disputes between Merck and Russian PTO (Teva Corp. represented by Sojuzpatent is interested party on the side of the Russian PTO) on previous invalidation of Eurasian patent 4544 (related to Alendronate) in favor of Teva Corp.
November 13, 2009 – The Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit decided in favor of plaintiff “Dr. Ing. h.s.F. Porsche AG” (German sport car manufacturer) in the trademark infringement case ruling to transfer to the plaintiff rights for domain names “cayenne-club.ru” and “cayenneclub.ru”. The plaintiff was supported in the hearings by attorneys of Sojuzpatent Mrs. Ekhlas and Dr.Zalesov.
December 2, 2009 - The Federal Arbitration Court for Moscow Circuit decided in favor of Soremartec S.A. (Ferrero Group) and retained in force International registration 798984 related to the outer appearance of Raffaello pralines. Ferrero Group has been represented in trial by attorneys of Sojuzpatent Mrs. Ozolina and Dr.Zalesov.
November 16, 2009 The Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit decided in favor of plaintiff JSC DZNVA (Russia, Krasnoyarsk region) against JSC “Electroapparat” (Russia, Kursk region) in patent enforcement case (Russian UM patent 53815 relates to high voltage switch). The Court ruled to give permanent injunction against manufacturing of electrical equipment which uses said patent. The plaintiff was supported in hearings by attorneys of Sojuzpatent Ms.Bednova and Mrs. Ozolina.
Sojuzpatent Ltd. was one of the co-organizers of the First All-Russian IP Forum “ExpoPriority” which took place December 1-4, 2009 in the Moscow Central Convention Hall “EXPOCENTER”
November 2, 2009 - The Chamber for the Patent Disputes of the Russian PTO issued decision invalidating in part in Russia the Eurasian patent 8223 (related to trimetazidin matrix tablet) belonging to Laboratories Servie (France). The opposition has been filed in the name of Gideon Richter (Hungary) and supported in the hearings by patent attorneys of Sojuzpatent Dr.Sobolev and Dr.Zalesov.
December 3, 2009 - The Chamber for the Patent Disputes of the Russian PTO issued decision to invalidate in full in Russia the Eurasian patent 2780 (relates to gas separation and liquidation process) belonging to Translang Technologies (Canada). The opposition has been filed in the name of Shell B.V. and supported in the hearings by patent attorneys of Sojuzpatent Mr.Struchkov and Dr.Zalesov.
On April 1, 2009 the Federal Law “On patent attorneys” will enter into force, that conforming to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation regulates the relations, connected with the patent attorneys’ activity on the territory of the Russian Federation, defines their rights and obligations, establishes the registration and certification procedure and also determines the liability of patent attorneys.
According to the Law the patent attorney has the right to exercises the following activities (on behalf of the client or employer):
1) advises on legal protection of the IP rights;
2) conducts the patent research and analysis of the circumstances of patent protection object selection;
3) prepares and files applications, suits and other documents and conducts prosecution thereof;
4) represents the client or employer in the Federal Executive Authority on Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation (Rospatent) including the established as its part the Chamber for Patent Disputes;
5) conducts the legal analysis of the agreements drafts that establish the transfer of the exclusive IP rights;
6) acts as an expert or representative in court hearings on disputes connected with the legal protection of the IP rights;
7) conducts other activities not prohibited by the legislation of the Russian Federation.
In respect to the current law the persons that received a status of the patent attorney according to the procedure established by the current Federal Law and conducting the activity connected with the legal protection of the results of intellectual property and individualization means, protection of intellectual rights and obtaining the exclusive rights on the results of intellectual property and individualization means are considered to be patent attorneys.
The following citizens of the Russian Federation can be certified and registered as the patent attorneys:
1) not less than 18 years old;
2) a resident of the Russian Federation;
3) obtained higher education;
4) has not less than 4 years of working experience in the field of patent attorney’s activity with respect to the specialization in which he wants to be certified and registered as a patent attorney;
5) passed the Exam of the Qualification Board of the Russian Patent and Trademark Office.
The patent attorney is liable under said law in case the damage is caused to the client by the patent attorney.
In liability of patent attorney in said law is specified as follows: the client or employer of patent attorney can make a submission to the Appeal Commission of the Russian Patent and Trademark Office. The Appeal Commission upon the hearings can proclaim one of the following decisions:
1) to make an official warning to patent attorney;
2) to ask the Federal Executive Authority on Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation to file a suit to the Court of Law in order to suspend the patent attorney status for 1 year or to exclude him from the Register up to 3 years term with the possibility of further reinstatement after the new Examination.
June 4, 2008 the Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit decided in favor of our client - BASF Agriculture AG (plaintiff) in the patent infringement case (based on the Russian patent 2051909) against the veterinary pharmacy chain stores “Interpharm” and the manufacturer of the drug JSC “API-SAN”. The Court order prohibits further distribution of insecticide drops (for cats and dogs) containing Fipronil substance (which is protected by the client’s patent).
The Moscow Arbitration Court by its Decisions of April 2, 2008 and March 24, 2008 ruled that marketing of confectionaries “Diamond” infringes the rights of the client of “Sojuzpatent” – Ferrero S.p.A. to the trademarks NN 783985 and 783578. Both trademarks are used by the trademark owner by marketing famous “Ferrero Rocher” pralines, which are copied by the manufacturer of “Diamond” confectionaries.

April 01, 2008 the Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit confirmed previous Decision of the Chamber for the Patent disputes of the Russian patent Office in favor of the client of Sojuzpatent – JSC “Motordetal” which invalidated Russian patent # 2272319 for the invention “Method of checking the authenticity of the goods” used by patent trolls to press the client and many other Russian and Foreign manufacturing companies to pay high royalties for the use of the “invention”. The trolls opened several patent infringement cases (including criminal procedure with the public prosecutor office) and the success of the invalidation procedure made by patent attorneys of Sojuzpatent was the best defense.
April 28, 2008 the Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit ruled in favor of defendant – Publishing House “Capital Encyclopedia” (client of Sojuzpatent) and rejected the claims of competing publisher (plaintiff) in copyright infringement case over the newly published encyclopedia “Teacher’s Guide”.
April 10, 2008 in Tokyo (Japan) the Joint seminar of IP protection in Russia was organized by the Japanese and Russian National Groups of the AIPPI. The panelists in the seminar were the President of the Russian Patent Office Dr.Boris Simonov and the President of the Eurasian Patent Office Dr.Alexander Grigoriev. One of the panelists (with the topic on patent enforcement in Russia) was Head of Litigation Practice of Sojuzpatent Dr.Zalesov, who serves as the Secretary of the Russian National Group of the AIPPI.
Journal “IP Exchange” #3, 2008 published article “Novelties in eth regulation of the franchising in Russia” by Dr.Zalesov of Sojuzpatent.
The 11th Moscow International Salon of Industrial Property "Archimedes" was held in Moscow on the territory of the Cultural-Exhibition Centre "Sokolniki" from 1 to 4 April 2008. As all previous years Sojuzpatent took an active part in it.
January 12, 2008 the Chamber for the Patent Disputes of the Russian Patent and Trademark Office ruled in favor of our client “Interbrand Zintsmeyer and Lux AG” (Swiss company – member of “Interbrand Group”) and cancelled the trademark registration 163589 “ČÍŇĐĹÁĐÝÍÄ” (which stands for “Interbrand” in Cyrillic letters) previously registered by a Russian squatter.

February 12, 2008 the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation on its Plenary Session ruled in favor for our client “Altaiskaya Raschetnaya Palata” (defendant) over the long-lasting dispute on infringement of the Russian patent 2148017 on catalytically grid process. The Plenary Session of the Supreme Arbitration Court sustained previous decisions of the lower courts in favor of our client and rejected previous motion of three judges of the Supreme Court for cessation of those decisions.
February 5, 2008 the Arbitration Court of Moscow decided in favor of our client Ferrero Spa (plaintiff) against the Russian company “Russkiye Produkti torg” and provided final injunction on import and sales in the Russian market of confectionary “Teatr” (made in China) as infringing international trademark 783985 (which protects as volume mark “Ferrero Rocher” product).
February 26, 2008 the Arbitration Court of Chuvashskaya Republic ruled in favor of our client Ferrero Spa (plaintiff) and prohibits manufacturing and sales of soft drink product “Kinder Kvas” by the local plant OAO “Pivovarennaya Compania Buket Chuvashii”(defendant) as infringing Russian trademark 40730 belonging to the client. The infringer shall pay 300 thousand roubles as compensation to Ferrero Spa.

February 22, 2008 the Arbitration court of Moscow ruled in favor of our client Soremartec SA (plaintiff, member of Ferrero Group) and
ordered final injunction on sales and manufacturing of confectionary “Landrin” by the Russian company ZAO “Landrin” (defendant) infringing the international trademark 798984 (which protects as image trademark “Raffaello” product). The infringer – ZAO “Landrin” shall pay 500 thousand roubles to Soremartec SA as the compensation for the trademark infringement.
December 25, 2007 the Decision of the Chamber for the Patent Disputes in favor of the client of Sojuzpatent – JSC “Otechestvenyie lekarstva” retaining in force the Russian patent # 2229291 (opposed by the competitor – JSC “Veropharm”) entered into legal force.
December 4, 2007 Sojuzpatent organized the seminar “Importance of the patent protection in biotech” for the students, researchers and professors of the Biological Faculty of the Moscow State University (which is the largest biotech school in Russia with more then 4 thousand students and researchers)
December 11, 2007 Sojuzpatent provided a workshop dedicated to the amendments in the Russian IP legislation (Part IV of the Russian Civil Code) for lawyers and corporate executives of the Urals Federal Circuit in the City of Perm (in the Chamber for Industry and Commerce).

November 30, 2007 the Chamber for the Patent Disputes ruled in favor of our client – Shell International Research B.V. in the opposition case. The opposition was filed against the validity in the Russian Federation of the Eurasian patent # 5482 (belongs to our client). The Chamber agreed with the arguments of the patent attorneys of Sojuzpatent and maintained the validity of the patent.
December 4, 2007 the Moscow City Arbitration Court decided in favor of the client of Sojuzpatent – famous German sport cars manufacture in a trademark infringement case initiated by the Russian customs authorities against a third party which imported (in parallel, without trademark owner authorization) SUV in Russia. The client was involved in the administrative case as an injured party. Under the Court order the final injunction is issued and the infringer is to pay the fine of 40000 roubles.
December 24, 2007 the Chamber for the Patent Disputes ruled in favor of our client –Chelsea Football Club Ltd. and invalidated the Russian Trademark registration # 289240 which is a Chelsea Lion Logo (registered by the Russian squatter). The Chamber accepted the proofs that Chelsea logo is protected by copyright and such registration in the name of the Russian squatter provides confusion to the customers.
December 11, 2007 Managing Partner of Sojuzpatent Svetlana Felitsyna participated in the meeting of the leaders of the Russian Industry with the President of the Russian Federation in the Moscow Kremlin. The topics discussed included the problem of joining World Trade Organization by Russia and further improvement of the Russian national system of IP protection. The event has had wide Russian national TV broadcasting coverage.
October 24, 2007 the Moscow City Arbitration Court ruled in favor of the clients of Sojuzpatent – Swiss firm “Interbrand Zintsmeyer and Lux AG” and British firm “Interbrand UK Ltd” (members of the Interbrand Group) in the case against the Russian firm “ZAO Interbrand Rusconsulting” who previously squattered the trademark “Interbrand” in Russia. The Court Decision sustained previously received Decision of the Chamber for the Patent Disputes (in favor of our client) which invalidated trademark registration “Interbrand” in the name of the squatter. The squattered trademark registration was the legal obstacle for the registration of the trademark “Interbrand Zintsmeyer and Lux” in Russia.

July 7, 2007 the Moscow Arbitration Court decided in favor of the famous German sport car manufacturer in trademark infringement case in Internet. The plaintiff will receive compensation of damages and the rights for the domain name “porsche-club.ru”.
August 12, 2007 the Decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court for our client- Raumplus Gmbh to stop infringement of the trademark “Raumplus” in the Internet entered into legal force. The Decision is the legal ground for the transfer of the rights for the domain “raumplus.ru” from the infringer to the client.
June 7, 2007 Sojuzpatent organized the seminar dedicated to the new Russia IP legislation for lawyers and executives of the Siberian Federal Circuit in the City of Novosibirsk.
June 15, 2007 the International Conference “IP Protection in Russia- the prospects” took place in Moscow Sheraton Palace Hotel. One of the panelists was Dr.Zalesov from Sojuzpatent.
August 9, 2007 the Moscow City Court ruled in favor of our client Dr.Zenovich against large Russian pharmaceutical company “VEROPHARM” and retained in force previous positive Decision of the Basmanny District Court to collect about 3 million roubles from “VEROPHARM” for the infringement of the Russian invention patent 2229291.
July 30, 2007 Moscow Arbitration Court decided in favor of “Societe Francaise DAssainissement-SFA” in trademark infringement case regarding the domain name “saninasos.ru”. This domain will be transferred to our client according to the Court decision.
May 22, 2007 attorneys of Sojuzpatent presented a topic “The Effective enforcement of patent rights in Russia” on the Conference organized by the Association of the European Business in Russia (took place in Marriott Aurora Hotel, Moscow).
April 25, 2007 the Basmanny District Court of Moscow ruled in favor of the client of Sojuzpatent (patent owner - Dr.Zenovich, Russian citizen) in the patent infringement case (Russian patent 2229291 for alcohol hang over syndrome drug) against the large Russian pharmaceutical company “VEROPHARM”JSC. The Court decided to collect from “VEROPHARM” JSC about 3 million roubles in damages and 800 thousand roubles as compensation for moral harm (about 160 thousand EUR) to Dr.Zenovich. The Court prohibited any further distribution of the drug. The client was represented in the Court by the lawyers of Sojuzpatent – Dr.Zalesov and Mrs.Ozolina. This case is one of the first cases in the Russian patent litigation practice when plaintiff received not only lost profit but also compensation of moral harm.
April 12, 2007 Sojuzpatent organized the seminar “Recent amendments in the Russian IP regulation” for lawyers and IP specialists of the Urals Federal District of Russia in the City of Ekaterinburg. The seminar was attended by more then 50 practitioners from the local industry.
March 13, 2007 the Chamber for Patent Disputes invalidated Russian trademark “PČO” (it is “RIO” in Cyrillic letters) the Certificate of Registration ą194619 in the opposition case filed by the trademark attorneys of Sojuzpatent on behalf of the client -“Bolton Alimetari S.p.a”.
March 20, 2007 the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation ruled in favor of the client of Sojuzpatent – “SOCRAFISH” JSC and overruled all previous decisions of lower courts (the Moscow City Arbitration Court, the Appeal Arbitration Court, the Federal Arbitration Court for Moscow District). The Dispute concerns the trademark “CHATKA” which is famous for the goods- canned crabs produced in the Russian Far East. The famous trademark was obtained by the client of Sojuzpatent during the privatization of the state property but it was demanded back throw the Court procedure (stated that the privatization was done with some law violations) by the Russian Government for the Governmently owned company (the current owner of all main Russian Vodka Brands). The appeal to the Supreme Arbitration Court is the last legal remedy provided by the Russian law but it is still quite rare practice when the Supreme Arbitration Court overrules all previous decisions.
March 22, 2007 the Decision of the Chamber for Patent Disputes in favor of “ICE FILI” JSC (the client of Sojuzpatent) in the opposition case against the trademark “FILEVSKY” (Russian trademark registration 179175) entered into legal force.
April 03, 2007 Sojuzpatent organized the seminar “Recent amendments in the Russian IP regulation” for lawyers and IP specialists of the North-Western Russian region in the City of Vologda. The seminar was attended by more then 60 participants from the industry and law firms.
The 10th Moscow International Salon of Industrial Property "Archimedes" was held in Moscow on the territory of the Cultural-Exhibition Centre "Sokolniki" from 27 to 30 March 2007. As all previous years Sojuzpatent took an active part in it.
15.03.2007 Russian and German national groups of the AIPPI together with Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent) organized a seminar “Practice of legal protection of inventions in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceutics in Germany and the EPO”. The following speakers were participating in the seminar: President of German National AIPPI Group Professor Mes, Chairman of Appeal Chamber of the EPO in the field of chemistry Dr. Teschemacher; Patentanwalt Dr. Bublak and President of the Russian National Group Vladimir V. Kuryshev. The assistance in organization of the seminar was provided by the Sojuzpatent patent attorneys: Aleksey Zalesov and Alla Bogacheva.

February 27, 2007 the Chamber for Patent Disputes invalidated Russian invention patent 2272319 in the opposition case filed by the patent attorneys of Sojuzpatent on behalf of the client -“Kostroma Motor Plant”. It is interesting to note that this patent was used by the patent owner as a ground for criminal infringement accusations against several large Russian and Foreign companies. The executives of these companies were criminally accused by patent owner for willingful infringement of patent 2272319 in large scale (article 147 of the Russian Criminal Code) and faced up to 5 years of imprisonment.
March 5, 2007 the Chamber for Patent Disputes ruled in favor of the client of Sojuzpatent – NIC JSC (N.Novgorod, Russia) and rejected the opposition against patent belonging to the client. The patent provides protection to the equipment related to oil refinery.

February 7, 2007 the Federal Arbitration Court for the Moscow Federal District (Cassation court) ruled in favor of the client of Sojuzpatent (the most known German sport car’s manufacturer) in the trademark infringement case. The Federal Arbitration Court overruled the previous negative decisions of the Moscow City Arbitration Court and the Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit as rendered “with substantial violation of the Russian trademark law”.

January 16, 2007 the Moscow Arbitration Court ruled in favor of FERM B.V. (Netherlands) to prohibit the illegal use of the registered trademark “FERM” (international registration 464388) in domain www.ferm.ru by the Russian defendant. The Court decision is a ground for compulsory transfer of rights for domain www.ferm.ru to FERM B.V. The trademark owner FERM B.V. was represented by the lawyers of Sojuzpatent.

December 7, 2006 the Chamber for Patent Disputes confirmed the validity of protection for the geographic designation “VOLOGODSKOE MASLO” (BUTTER FROM VOLOGDA REGION-NORTHERN RUSSIA) in the opposition case (Sojuzpatent represented the designation owner). “VOLOGODSKOE MASLO” is one of the most known Russian brands among the food products. The fame of the designation “VOLOGODSKOE MASLO” was created by the excellence of manufacturing and special climatic conditions of the VOLOGDA region.
November 13, 2006 the Decision of the Chamber for the Patent Disputes of the Russia Patent and Trademark Office came into force. September 20, 2006 the Chamber for Patent Disputes of the Russian Patent and Trademark Office ruled in favor of the clients of Sojuzpatent – Swiss firm “Interbrand Zintsmeyer and Lux AG” and British firm “Interbrand UK Ltd” (members of the Interbrand Group belonging to Omnicom and specializing in brand evaluation and promotion services) in the opposition procedure against the Russian firm “ZAO Interbrand Rusconsulting” (it has nothing to do with Omnicom) who squattered the Russian registration of the trademark “INTERBRAND”. The Decision of the Chamber for Patent Disputes declared the registration void and that permitted the Interbrand Group to start its business activity in Russia under the “INTERBRAND” designation. This decision is a precedent when the decent foreign company returns its rights in Russia with absolutely no settlement with the squatter. The dispute was long but the outcome demonstrated that the Russian Law provides all the necessary means for legitimate solution in favor of the true trade name owner.

20 June 2006 the International conference “Biotechnology – Science and Business ” took place in the Biotechnological Research Center of the Russian Academy of Science in the City of Puschino (Moscow Region). One of the issues of the Conference was the problem of commercialization of the Russian inventions in the field of Biotechnology. December 05, 2005 Appeal Arbitration Court for Ninth Circuit ruled in favor of the “Center Grand Firm” - a client of SOJUZPATENT in a case over the infringement of the exclusive right for database (to be used in the construction business commercial calculations). The remuneration sum disputed was 6500000 Roubles and it was the largest dispute in the Russian Federation over the database exclusive right. The client was represented by the IP lawyers of Sojuzpatent – Dr.Zalesov and Ms.Bogacheva.

Sojuzpatent has been providing services for domain names registration in .RU zone. From April 2004 we are begining cooperation with Ladas Domains LLC, the official registrar of ICANN, in the sphere of protection our clients’ IP rights related to domain names. A new book has been published "The legal regulation of protection against unfair competition", the author - Adviser of the Russian Federation of the I class, Legal Councellor of Sojuzpatent Dr. Leonid E. Goukasian, - has written more than 75 scientific publications, including 14 - in the field of protection against the unfair competition and the intellectual property protection.
The seminar organized under the auspices of the Association of the Russian Patent Attorneys concerning the Higher Arbitration Court Practice in IP litigation cases took place on March 17, 2004. The specialists of Sojuzpatent – trademark attorneys Chernikova O.V., Sinitzyna A.Y. and litigation counsel Ekhlas T.V. have participated in the seminar.
On February 19, 2004 patent attorneys of Sojuzpatent Alexander Isaev and Aleksey Zalesov participated as panelists in the seminar organized by the Moscow association of Entrepreneurs in the President hotel (Moscow).
On February 18, 2004 patent attorneys: Alexander Isaev, Ana Yu. Sinitsyna, Pavel S. Seleznev and Aleksey V. Zalesov participated in conference organized by the Association of the Russian Patent Attorneys.
On February 20, 2004 Committee on Intellectual Property of the Russian Chamber of Industry and Trade meeting took place.
We are glad to announce that Mrs. Tatiana V. Ekhlas has joined our firm as a Senior Counsel of the Legal Department on February 2. Before Mrs. Ekhlas worked as the Head of the Department of Legal Support with the Chamber for Patent Disputes.
The specialists and lawyers of Sojuzpatent have placed a number of articles in following journals last year: The review of practice and Tendency of licensing in the USA in N4 of Intellectual Property Exchange; About the activity of the European Patent Office in 2002 in N 9, and About the changes in the Patent Legislation of Ukraine in N 8 of Inventioning ; The new order of protection of industrial designs in EU countries in N 6 of Patents and Licenses; Amendments to the Model Custom Law of the World Customs Organisation " Border measures against smuggling of the counterfeit goods ” in N 4 of Intellectual Property Exchange.
By the decision of the Russian Patent Office five more specialists of Sojuzpatent have been registered patent attorneys. The total amount of Sojuzpatents patent attorneys nowadays is 30.
Under the results of the VI Moscow International Salon of industrial property "Archimedes" Sojuzpatent was awarded with the Diploma "For active participation in the organization and realization of the Salon", and the Managing Partner – Svetlana B.Felitsyna - with the Diploma "Of Respect and Gratitude".
In Nizhny Novgorod the seminar "The role of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the support of innovational activity and promotion of high technologies", organized by the Nizhny Novgorod region Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been conducted, the commercial director of "LicenTech", company, affiliated by Sojuzpatent, Vladimir I. Luchinsky has taken part in.
The Managing Partner of Sojuzpatent Svetlana B.Felitsyna was awarded with a Medal of the Russian Patent Office "For the large contribution to the development of theory and practice of the intellectual property legal protection".
On April 21 Dr.Aleksey V. Zalesov the Head of the Legal Department of Sojuzpatent has taken part in the program "Date" dedicated the birthday anniversary of the outstanding Russian inventor Kulibin in a direct air of the TVC channel. In the program the main directions of Sojuzpatent’s activity were named, the actual problems of a legal protection and commercialization of the inventions in the Russian Federation were briefly reviewed, and also the answers for questions of spectators from different regions of our country were given.
April 14-15 the International Scientific - Practical Conference "Problems of the intellectual property protection in a context of the entrance of Russia to WTO" was held in the hall of Presidium of the Russian Academy of sciences, organized jointly by the Conrad Adenauer’s Foundation, the Government of Moscow and the Russian Academy of sciences.
The book by Alexander P. Agureev has been published. “Features and problems of patenting of the medical purpose inventions nowadays”.
From March 18 till March 21, 2003 in the Exhibition Center "Sokolniki" (Moscow) the VI Moscow International Salon of Industrial Property “Archimedes - 2003“ was held.
Since April 14, 2003 come into force: the Rules of filing and consideration of the application for registration and assignment of the right of use of an origin of goods and the application for registration and assignment of the right of use of a registered origin of goods; the Rules of filing and consideration of the application on registration of the trademark and service mark; the Rules of decision making about the early cancellation of validity of the certificate of the right of use of an origin of goods after the liquidation of the company - owner of the certificate; the Rules of decision making about the early cancellation of validity of the legal protection of the trademark and the service mark in a case of the liquidation of the company - owner of an exclusive right on the trademark or termination of business activity of the person - owner of an exclusive right on the trademark.
December 27, 2002 the Federal Law from 11.12.2002 ą 166-FZ "Amendments to the Law of the Russian Federation" On trademarks, service marks and appellations of origin of goods" has come into force.
February 7, 2003 the significant amendments to the Patent Law of the Russian Federation were introduced and came into force since March 12, 2003.
On July 23, 2002 President of the CCI RF Mr. Primakov held a meeting with the staff of Sojuzpatent. At the agenda of the meeting there were the problems of the Intellectual Property rights protection and the place taken by Sojuzpatent at the legal patent market.
